Glen Allen (VA) junior quarterback Alex Faniel will announce his college choice on Thursday, March 17, he revealed yesterday through Twitter. Faniel says he is “pretty much” down to Virginia Tech and NC State, and this morning he indicated he would not take anymore college visits.
The 6’5″, 225-pound signal caller attended a Junior Day event at Virginia Tech on February 6, and this experience put the Hokies in great shape.
“What was impressive to me about VT was the coaching staff and how well they seemed to continue what coach Beamer starter. Everything else is the same and I love it,” Faniel wrote in a Twitter direct message.
“Coach Fuente really preached an idea of overemphasizing the production of his players,” Faniel wrote, providing his take on head coach Justin Fuente and offensive coordinator Brad Cornelsen. “While they might not get the best talent they can take the talent they do have and coach those guys up to be big-time guys. Coach Fuente and Coach Cornelsen are very relaxed but fired up about being at VT. And they seem like great coaches.”
Faniel enjoyed some lighthearted competition as well as one-on-one dialogue with Fuente at Tech’s Junior Day.
“There was a pie eating contest which I took part in,” Faniel wrote. “No one told me it would be apple pie (I’m not a very big fan of apple pie), but nevertheless it was an awesome experience. I got to sit down and talk to coach Fuente with my family just us and him, and we really got to know each other really well.”
