1: Do you think Trey Edmunds transferring to UMd is any indication of the recovery of Marshawn Williams and Shai McKenzie? In other words, is he leaving because it looks like one or both will be back to their old form? – HokieDevil

Chris Coleman: In the case of Marshawn Williams, absolutely not. Marshawn tried to push himself too quickly and ended up re-tearing his knee back in October. As a result, he had another surgery, and he had to start the process all over again. If he wasn’t 100% 11 months after his first injury, why should we believe that he’ll be 100% 11 months after his second surgery?

Personally, I’m not even counting Marshawn as part of the roster right now. I don’t think he’ll contribute for the Hokies in 2016. I consider him to be on injured reserve. He needs to follow the advice of the doctors this time around and not push things. If he can come back in 2017, great. But he shouldn’t try to push it for 2016.

As far as McKenzie goes, he’ll be nearly two years off knee surgery when the season begins. He wasn’t quite himself at the beginning of this past season, but there’s a chance he could return to form this spring or this fall. However, I
