One week and one day from today, Patrick Jones II will announce his college choice. Is he leaning toward any one school right now?

“I’m still open to all three,” Jones II answered in a direct message over Twitter.

The three schools still in the running for the Grassfield (Chesapeake, VA) senior defensive end are NC State, Pittsburgh, and Virginia Tech. Jones visited Pittsburgh this past weekend and said he “really enjoyed” the experience. Up next is an official visit to NC State this coming weekend.

The 6’5″, 230-pound senior visited Virginia Tech several times this year, including an official visit the weekend of October 23-24. Tech is, of course, in the market for a new head coach in the wake of Frank Beamer’s retirement announcement. Will this impact the Chesapeake native’s decision?

“Not really because I know my position coach and [Bud Foster] is still going to be there and they plan on bringing in a offensive guy. So that’s not going to affect me,” Jones wrote in a direct message over Twitter.

Jones was one of Grassfield’s defensive leaders in 2015, racking up 83 tackles including 13 tackles for loss and 11 sacks while helping the Grizzlies to an 8-4 overall record. Grassfield fell by only one-point to traditional power Oscar Smith in the second round of the 6A South playoffs last Friday night.

“I’m most proud of just getting a lot of pressure back there and making the QB throw fast, leading to them throwing interceptions and incomplete passes,” Jones answered when asked about his senior season performance. In addition to his tackle numbers, Jones II had five QB hurries and one pass deflection.

We know Jones will get after the quarterback for an ACC school. Stay tuned next Wednesday to find out exactly where the promising prospect will end up. At whatever school he chooses, look for him to enroll this coming January.
