Grassfield (Chesapeake, VA) senior defensive end Patrick Jones II informed TechSideline.com that he will make an official visit to Virginia Tech this weekend, which is when the Hokies host Pittsburgh in what will be the ACC opener for both schools. Jones has taken unofficial visits to Tech before, most recently for the regular season opener against Ohio State.
“I like Tech a lot,” Jones II wrote in a direct message over Twitter. He added that he will visit “VT on the 3rd (of October) and it is an official.”
Jones is a 6’5″, 230-pound defensive end prospect some college coaches project as a hybrid outside linebacker/defensive end on the major college level. As a junior last season, Jones, who has grown six inches since his sophomore year, had 7 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He got off to a fast start in 2015, accumulating four sacks in his first four games.
“My role is to make big plays and to lead and get the defense fired up,” said Jones, whose favorite players include Houston Texans stars Jadeveon Clowney and JJ Watt, as well as Cameron Wake.
Jones has received scholarship offers from schools across the country, including California, Duke, Illinois, Marshall, NC State, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Of the schools that have offered, Jones has taken unofficial visits to Duke, NC State and Virginia Tech. Tech will be his first official visit experience.
The 247Sports 3-star prospect says he is “trying to narrow everything down.”
Asked if he is close to making a decision, he answered: “Yeah I’m close.”
