Virginia Tech-bound wide receiver prospect Sam Denmark is off to a terrific start to his senior season, helping Hanahan (S.C.) to a perfect 3-0 record.

Denmark scored two touchdowns – a 67-yard reception and 20-yard rush – in the Hawks’ season opener. He followed up with a monster performance against Timberland, when he scored three touchdowns – a 91-yard kick-off return, an 80-yard reception and a 72-yard reception (Denmark’s highlights from this game are at the bottom of this article). And then, in a blowout victory over Bishop England, the 6’0”, 180-pound prospect had six receptions for 85 yards.

Hanahan had a bye last week but returns to the field this Friday, September 18, in an away contest versus Cane Bay. Denmark expects his team’s success to continue.

“I feel confident in the team this year,” Denmark said.

From an individual standpoint, Denmark discussed his improvement from last year to this year.

“I feel like I definitely have improved as far as making plays after I catch the ball,” said Denmark, who has excellent speed. “I’ve improved a lot on my quickness. This offseason I wanted to focus on route running. I’ve improved a good bit from last year. I still have room to improve there. As far as my size, I’m still about 6’0”, 180 pounds, but I definitely feel stronger.”

Once his senior season is complete, Denmark won’t have to wait long before he heads off to college.
