Big Runs by the Backs Highlight Second Scrimmage

The Hokies held their second open scrimmage of August on Saturday, and it was highlighted by several long runs by Tech tailbacks.

Note that some of the #1 guys didn’t play today.  Kendall Fuller was out and had his knee wrapped, though it’s nothing serious.  Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips didn’t scrimmage, probably for two reasons…

1: The staff wanted their backups to get a lot of work with the #1 offense.
2: If Ford or Phillips gets hurt, we’re in trouble.

Again, the most productive backup was diminutive walkon r-freshman CJ Carroll.  He had at least two catches, and turned one into a long gain over the middle.  He got roughed up at the end by Deon Clarke, and both guys almost came to blows after the play.  I like that kind of spark from a guy like Carroll.  He’s the smallest guy on the field, which means he has to be the toughest if he wants to find success.
