The depth chart behind Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips is one of the biggest question marks on this year’s team. It blows my mind that Tech wasn’t able to sign any wide receivers for the 2015 class considering their chances for early playing time.
Here’s what Zohn Burden told BeamerBall.com after the first scrimmage…
“I’d say my guys were decent. Isaiah Ford had a couple catches that stood out and so did C.J. Carroll. Cam Phillips didn’t play in this scrimmage. We held him out. Overall, as a group, we have a lot of room for improvement. Pretty much all I have to say at this point until we get deeper into this camp.”
As usual, Burden is a man of few words, which is something I like about him. Still, that doesn’t tell us very much, and it’s actually concerning that Burden would mention 5-7 walkon freshman CJ Carroll above bigger, more experienced scholarship players.
At one wide receiver spot, the depth chart lists Isaiah Ford #1 and Kevin Asante #2. Cam Phillips is #1 at the other position, with Demitri Knowles #2. After those guys, things are unknown. In fact, the depth chart could have changed since the first day of practice and we wouldn’t have any...
