Virginia Tech Potentially Shut Out of the In-State Top 10

757 cornerback Wayne Davis committed to Ohio State yesterday afternoon. There’s a chance that Virginia Tech might not land a single top 10 recruit in the state of Virginia this year, at least according to TSL’s 2016 preseason recruiting rankings. This would be the first time in the history of TSL’s rankings that the Hokies failed to sign a single top 10 in-state recruit.

Here’s the number of top 10 recruits the Hokies have signed broken down year by year, going back to TSL’s first set of rankings in 2003. (Reference link: In-state Recruiting Rankings History)

2008: 5
2009: 4

Using the Roanoke Times Top 25 as an example, you have to go all the way back to 1995 to find the last time Tech didn’t land a top 10 in-state prospect.

Obviously each website, each newspaper and each recruiting service is different. For example, Grant Holloway is #6 according to Rivals, and VT could still land him. 247 has Reggie Floyd #7 in the state, and he has already committed to Tech. Still, those guys would give VT just one
