June of 2015 is the month in which Jake Lawler, a 6’2”, 220-pound defensive end prospect out of South Mecklenburg (Charlotte, N.C.), made his big splash on the football recruiting front.

On June 7, Charlotte became the first school to offer the standout rising junior. From there, the next few weeks would be pretty exciting with five ACC schools extending scholarships. The timeline is as follows…

– June 8 – Duke offers
– June 14 – Virginia Tech offers
– June 16 – Wake Forest offers
– June 18 – NC State offers
– June 19 – UNC offers

Showing quickness of the edge as well as tenacity and determination, Lawson was impressive during Virginia Tech’s one-day camp on June 14. During the post-lunch one-on-ones, he had a good idea that he had earned a scholarship offer from the Hokies.

“I was talking to Coach Wiles, the D-Line coach, and after a while he just told me to stop going. He was like, ‘We’ve made a decision on you,’” Lawler recalled.

Sure enough, head coach Frank Beamer extended a scholarship offer following the camp’s conclusion.

“I’ve liked this school a lot,” Lawler said when asked what an offer from Virginia Tech means to him. “The first time I came up here was for the Spring Game and I really enjoyed it. It was a great atmosphere and I loved everything about it. Coming back here is just a refresher.”
