Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) rising senior wide receiver/defensive back Phillip Patterson announced yesterday that he had received another major FBS scholarship offer.
Patterson discussed what the UVa offer means to him in an interview last night.
“There are a couple of things,” Patterson noted about UVa. “It is pretty close to home. I have a couple of former teammates that go there, so I think if I go there the chemistry would be there. I already know players there.”
Patterson added: “I wasn’t really expecting it, but I’ve been wanting that offer since the process started. Now, I want to take a visit and go from there.”
UVa has offered the 6’2”, 180-pound prospect as a safety. Patterson has drawn interest on both sides of the ball, as he is viewed by some schools as a wide receiver and others as a defensive back. Virginia Tech, which has also offered, initially recruited the Bayside standout as a defensive back but has since switched to wide receiver.
With the offer, Virginia is now one of the schools Patterson would like to visit in the coming months. He has no definitive visit dates scheduled, but he said he “definitely” plans on making a commitment before the summer is out.
