March 28 was a special day for Riverbend (Fredericksburg, VA) offensive tackle Zach Adams. On that day, the 6’7”, 300-pound junior received a scholarship offer from the University of Virginia.
“It was a big relief to know I’ll get to play at the next level,” Adams said, discussing the significance of landing his first scholarship offer.
Adams learned the news while in Charlottesville on an unofficial visit. The timing came as a bit of a surprise because new Cavalier offensive line coach Dave Borbely had previously expressed that he wanted to see Adams in camp before offering. No question, though… Adams is pleased with the offer regardless of the timing.
Asked for his thoughts on UVa, Adams said: “I love Coach Borbs and Coach London. Hands down, they are two of my favorite coaches. I love Coach London’s attitude toward the game. He’s always looking to improve and always thinking positively. I’m overwhelmed by the value of the education and the degree there.”
Virginia isn’t the only major FBS program recruiting Adams, but as of this writing it remains the only offer. Tennessee – where Adams will be today – is expressing serious interest as well. The Riverbend product is also receiving serious interest from North Carolina, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
Adams is in Knoxville on an unofficial visit today. This past weekend, he was in Blacksburg to see Virginia Tech.
“It was my first time at Virginia Tech besides camp,” Adams said. “I got to experience the way the coaches are with the players. I felt at home there. I talked to a bunch of guys. Some of the offensive linemen came over and talked to us. They talked about the process they went through and why they chose Virginia Tech.”
