The Architect of Mayhem

If there’s a single justification for this “Go Tech Go” series, you can find it in the inexplicable results of fan voting for the All-Lane Stadium 50th Anniversary Football Team.

Kudos to Virginia Tech for a great idea beautifully presented and professionally executed. Kudos to NTelos Wireless for sponsoring it. But I can’t put any value in the voting, because fans somehow ignored players such as quarterback Don Strock (1970-72), running backs Cyrus Lawrence (1979-82) and Mickey Fitzgerald (1980-82), receiver Ricky Scales (1972-74), defensive end Robert Brown (1980-81) and linebackers Mike Widger (1967-69) and Mike Johnson (1980-83).

Maybe younger fans took advantage of the voting, and chose more recent players instead of the all-time greats. But some of those choices was like saying Anchorman is a better comedy than Animal House.

You can debate some of the choices, but not at linebacker. With all due respect to Xavier
