Carson Lydon is the focus of today’s scouting report. Here’s a quick hint: he’s got a chance to be really, really good.

Height: 6-1
Weight: 231

Rivals: 3-stars, unranked

I used a lot of different things when I evaluate Virginia Tech recruits. I use their highlight tapes, sometimes a few inside sources, how I view them fitting into the Tech system, etc. I also read through the ESPN (Scouts, INC) scouting report for each guy.

With true freshman linebacker Carson Lydon, I think I’ve found a first. His ESPN scouting report does not include one single negative comment. Most scouting reports indicate when a guy doesn’t change direction very well, when he doesn’t use his hands, if he might not have great fluidity, etc. There are no such indications in Lydon’s scouting report. If I could sum up the ESPN scouting report in one sentence, it would be “Carson Lydon is awesome, and he’s going to be really good.” (For what it’s worth, I don’t think the same people who do ESPN’s rankings do their scouting reports.)

After watching his highlight tape, I’m inclined to agree. Check it out…

When watching those highlights, remember where he is playing. He is playing for East Lake High School
