Today we’ll take a deeper look at this year’s basketball team. We’ll talk about Buzz Williams and some important numbers from his Marquette days, we’ll get into the importance of Joey van Zegeren to this particular team, and we’ll discuss season expectations.

How fast will this team play?

Almost every college coach in the country says he wants to play fast. They love to tell recruits that, because that’s what recruits want to hear. However, coaches have to adjust their strategy based on their personnel, and Buzz Williams was a genius at that in his days at Marquette.

Here’s a look at where his teams ranked in terms of pace in each of his seasons at Marquette:

2008-09: #85
2009-10: #304
2010-11: #129
2011-12: #16
2012-13: #239
2013-14: #161
