Chris Coleman: At this point I would be surprised if he doesn’t. We’ve heard a lot of good things about Ford over the last several weeks. He is simply a more talented player than Knowles. Remember last season when Knowles was outmuscled for the football by every corner he faced, including that 1-AA Western Carolina corner? Well, stuff like that doesn’t happen to Isaiah Ford. I think Ford is Tech’s #2 outside receiver right now, with Joshua Stanford being #1. I think Willie Byrn will hold up as Tech’s top slot receiver, though he is being pushed by Cam Phillips (6-1, 190, Fr.), and Phillips can also line up on the outside. Here’s how I think the top four stack up right now:
1: Joshua Stanford (6-1, 200, r-So.)
2: Isaiah Ford (6-1, 174, Fr.)
3: Willie Byrn (5-11, 187, r-Sr.)
4: Cam Phillips (6-1, 190, Fr.)
Beyond those guys, there are several players fighting for spots #5 and #6 on the depth chart. They are:
We haven’t heard much out of Carlis Parker since practice began, and quite frankly I hope Virginia Tech redshirts him. He was a raw project when he enrolled, yet he still had to play as a true freshman....
