First Visit Sold Lydon On Virginia Tech

Carson Lydon’s first visit to Virginia Tech was a success, as the 6’1”, 230-pound linebacker prospect returned home to Tarpon Springs (FL) having been offered a scholarship by the Hokies. That March 1 trip left a lasting impression on the East Lake High School rising senior, who verbally committed to the Hokies last Wednesday.

“The first time I was up there, I figured it was the school for me,” Lydon said. “I wanted to check out other places to make sure I wasn’t swept up in the moment. The second time I visited, I loved it more. I decided it was the place for me. My coach thought I should wait until the spring, when schools would be coming through. I did, but I knew Tech was the place for me.”

Asked to name the top three reasons why he chose Virginia Tech, Lydon said: “Obviously, the football program is the top one. They have a legendary defense. Coach Foster is one of the best defensive coordinators in the nation. There is such tradition there. Another factor is I felt instantly it would be a good home for me. I knew it was a good place for me. And then there was the location. I love outdoor activities. I should be able to do a lot of fishing, hunting… a lot of good things like that. I’m really looking forward to it.”

The March 1 trip catapulted Virginia Tech to the top of the standout linebacker’s list. The return trip to Tech on April 19 sealed the deal. Throughout, the Tech coaches let it be known to Lydon that they thought he was a great fit for the program.
