Buzz Williams’ first high school stop as Virginia Tech head coach caught the attention of a certain class of 2015 point guard prospect.

“Coach Buzz’ first visit was to St. James when he got the job at Virginia Tech, so that was nice,” said 6’1”, 175-pound Justin Robinson, a 3-star recruit (Rivals and Scout) who led St. James (Hagerstown, MD) to a 22-5 overall record in the 2013/2014 season.

Of Williams and the rest of the new Tech men’s basketball coaching staff, Robinson said: “They are a great coaching staff on and off the court. They motivate you every time you talk to them, so it’s just a great relationship.”

There is quite a bit of competition for Robinson. In addition to Tech, he has received scholarship offers from George Washington, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Memphis, ODU, Penn State, Providence, St. Joseph’s, Temple and UNLV.

Robinson claims he is “still open” and “everybody’s equal,” adding that he’ll likely narrow his list after the Nike Peach Jam, which takes place July 16-20.

“Me, my parents, my coaching staff at high school and AAU, and my former coach [former Montrose Christian head coach Stu] Vetter, we’ll talk about it and find the school fits me best with a great education, a family environment on and off the court, and a coaching staff that knows what they’re doing,” Robinson said.

Robinson attended Montrose Christian (Rockville, MD) his sophomore year before transferring to St. James, where he averaged 14.6 points and 7.9 assists per game as a junior. He is now playing on the AAU circuit for Boo Williams, the program he played for toward the end of the 2013 AAU season.
