Depth Chart Changes

Virginia Tech’s official depth chart was updated yesterday, and there were a couple of subtle changes in the secondary.

1: Chuck Clark is now backing up Der’Woun Greene at cornerback.
2: Greg Jones is now backing up Detrick Bonner at free safety.
3: Zach Snell is now backing up Desmond Frye at rover.

Those depth chart moves have come about because of injury.  Brandon Facyson‘s injury left Tech with just three scholarship corners, and with Chuck Clark competing for the nickel spot this year, it’s good to get him reps at cornerback since nickel is a hybrid CB/safety position.

With Clark working at cornerback, Greg Jones has switched from rover to free safety to back up Detrick Bonner.  Zach Snell has moved up to the #2 rover position because Anthony Shegog is out with an undisclosed injury.


Finding an offensive line rotation

Senior center David Wang is currently injured.  He’s not going through most drills because of an apparent ankle injury.  This shouldn’t come as a surprise, because Wang has suffered through a number of leg injuries in the past, particularly ankle injuries.  Once you sprain an ankle once, it becomes easier to sprain it again.
