Marshawn “Juice” Williams
Second Team 4A All-State
I was a little bit surprised with HokieSports.com listed Marshawn Williams at 224. He was generally listed between 210 and 215 by all the recruiting services. If he is a legit 224, that means he is Tech’s biggest back since Cedric Humes. Humes was listed at 233 as a senior. Darren Evans was 220 on the dot as a junior. Both of those guys were taller than Williams (6-1 for Humes, 6-0 for Evans) which means he is packing more pounds onto a smaller frame.
Williams transferred from Hampton High School to Phoebus High school for his senior season. I thought his senior film was much improved and showed a quicker, more athletic player.
Playing on the Peninsula, Williams faced solid competition on a weekly basis (except for Warwick, who is terrible), and he also faced DeMatha High School in the first week of the season. Against that competition, he ran for 2,192 yards and 30 touchdowns, and was named Player of the Year by the Newport News Daily-Press.
Here’s what stands out to me about Williams:
Size: Even before he was listed at 224 by HokieSports, Williams was plenty big enough. In fact, he already weighs more than every other running back on the roster.
Physicality: Williams isn’t afraid to put his head down and go after defenders. He often creates yards after contact with his own brute strength.
