Raymon Minor‘s January Schedule

Benedictine (Richmond, VA) linebacker/receiver Raymon Minor is one of Virginia Tech’s top remaining targets in the class of 2014. The 6’3″, 225-pound senior took an official visit to Nebraska this past fall, and according to Cadets coach Greg Lilly he has scheduled two more officials to take place this month.

Via e-mail, Lilly wrote that Minor will head to Marshall University this weekend. Minor will take the SAT on Saturday, January 25, and will then trek to Virginia Tech the weekend of January 31-February 2, which is the final weekend before Signing Day arrives on Wednesday, February 5.

As a senior, Minor earned VISAA first-team all-state honors and Richmond Times-Dispatch second-team all-metro honors for his play at linebacker, which is where Virginia Tech is recruiting him to play. He also was a weapon at wide receiver for the Cadets, and some college coaches envision him as a receiver or H-back.

Blacksburg Product To Take Official To Tech

Blacksburg (VA) senior place-kicker Carson Wise will make an official visit to Virginia Tech the weekend of January 24-26, which will an important recruiting weekend for the Hokies. Wise, who is being pursued by Tech for a recruited walk-on spot, has taken an official visit to Davidson and also is considering interest from Old Dominion, Princeton and William & Mary. He expects to make his college choice soon after the trip to Blacksburg.

Wise made 11 field goals, including two over 50 yards (55, 51), in 13 tries his senior year. He handled the punting duties as well, averaging 37.3 yards per punt as a senior. Wise is being recruited by Tech as a place-kicker.

Virginia Tech has recruited one place-kicker in this class already in Athens Academy (Athens, GA) standout Michael Santamaria. I spoke with Santamaria this week, and he said he will likely enroll at Tech this coming summer. If he is needed to play, he will go on scholarship in the summer. If Frank Beamer decides to hold him out, he will take classes at Tech in the fall and but won’t go on football scholarship until January of 2015.
