DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) rising senior Cam Phillips has narrowed his college focus to five, including Rutgers, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The 6’0″, 180-pound wide receiver prospect took a closer look at two of his finalists recently, checking out Rutgers last weekend and UVa on Tuesday of this week.
Last Saturday, Phillips and some of his DeMatha teammates headed up to Rutgers for a 7-on-7 tournament. Following the tournament, in which the Stags reached the semifinals, the entire DeMatha contingent was given a tour of the facilities and campus.

Accompanied by his mother and younger sister, Phillips estimates he was in Charlottesville on Tuesday for about “seven or eight hours.”
“We went around campus with Anthony Poindexter and Marques Hagans, the wide receivers coach,” Phillips recalled. “They showed us everything they could. I had a conversation with Coach Hagans. I had a long, in-depth talk with Mike London. I really liked it.”

The Virginia experience “definitely will hold others to a higher standard,” Phillips said.
The DeMatha standout claims no favorite among his top five. Visits to Virginia Tech and West Virginia are set for July (though Phillips was unsure of the dates), and a trip to Wisconsin is in the works as well. Those three schools will have a chance to impress, as Phillips has not visited any of the three to date.
As for when a decision may come, the promising athlete estimates...
