Despite the loss of Da’Shawn Hand and Jalyn Holmes, the Hokies still have a chance to sign a very good group of defensive linemen, and a good defensive class overall.

Defensive End

Commits: Vinny Mihota

Other targets: Jesse Aniebonam , Kentavius Street

Vinny Mihota got Virginia Tech’s defensive line recruiting off to a strong start when he verballed at the 2012 Spring Game.  I’ve heard Alabama tried to make a strong push at him this spring, but he’s not interested.  He’s a Tech guy all the way.

Da’Shawn Hand has eliminated the Hokies, so Tech has to turn elsewhere if they want to add a second defensive end to this class.  Jesse Aniebonam is a 4-star recruit with a ton of offers, and he was Kendall Fuller’s high school teammate.  He wants to visit Virginia Tech in July, and he has the Hokies amongst his top group of schools.  In-state Maryland could be tough to beat, and Clemson and UNC are strong contenders as well.  Aniebonam is ranked #94 nationally by Rivals and #105 by 247Sports.

Kentavius Street is listed at defensive end, but I think he would grow into a defensive tackle for the Hokies.  For now, I’ll leave him at defensive end however.  Virginia Tech is solidly in the running, and his mom likes the Hokies as well.  He’ll be a tough pull away from NC State (the in-state school) and the deep south schools such as Clemson and Georgia, but right now the Hokies stand a good chance to get an official visit.

Tech could potentially find more defensive end targets at their July 13 camp.  Current defensive end Dewayne Alford
