Today we’ll take our first look at the 2012-13 basketball team by previewing the players. As has been well documented, the Hokies don’t have many scholarship players on this team. Only nine, to be exact, and one of those won’t be eligible until next season because of NCAA transfer rules.
Let’s get started with Tech’s starting lineup.
With only eight scholarship players available for this season, the Hokies don’t have any room for error, injuries, or foul trouble. Here’s how Tech’s starting lineup is projected to look.
Erick Green (6-3, 185, Sr.): We know all about Erick Green , the player. The senior point guard has improved his game each year he’s been at Virginia Tech. He was a solid scorer as a sophomore, and last season he took the next step forward as a shooter. He increased his overall shooting from 41.4% to 43.8%, and his three-point shooting from 24.8% to 37.5%. Green was also a very reliable 82.8% from the free throw line last season. He averaged 15.6 points per game, and was Tech’s top scorer.
This year we have to see Erick Green , the leader. He’s the only senior on this team, and Tech’s other experienced players ( Jarell Eddie and Cadarian Raines ) don’t strike me as being the vocal type that the Hokies need (Eddie in particular). Therefore, it all falls on Green. He’s got to grab this bull by the horns. He’s got to be the leader in the locker room. He’s got to set the tone in practice, and in games. He has to lead vocally,...
