English Lands First Offer

St. Christopher’s (Richmond, VA) rising senior tight end/defensive lineman Jack English began his 2012 camp schedule last Sunday at Virginia Tech.  One day later, he received some good news.

“Last Sunday was his first camp, and it was his first offer.  He got it the next day,” Saints head coach Michael Turner said.  “According to Virginia Tech’s coaches, Jack looked spectacular when they were putting him through the tight end paces.  He also did some pass- blocking drills as a tackle, and he did well there too.  He measured in at 6’5 1/2″, 245 pounds or so, and I think he ran a 4.7 and change in the 40.”

Virginia Tech’s scholarship offer comes less than two weeks after the Hokies invited English to attend camp.

“Early on, Shane said they had taken a fair number of defensive linemen in last year’s class, so Tech was actually off the board,” Turner said.  “What happened was Shane came and watched spring workouts.  Based on what he saw from Jack running around as a tight end, he extended an offer to come to camp.  It happened in short order.  Shane saw the workout on the 23rd of May, and the offer came a day after camp.”
