Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) star Taquan Mizzell , one of the most coveted tailbacks in the country in the class of 2013, has narrowed his list of schools to 10.
“After having over 20 scholarship offers I decided to cut it down to a top 10… West Virginia, UVA, Miami, Clemson, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame, Illinois, North Carolina State, and North Carolina,” the 5’11”, 185-pound rising senior wrote on his Facebook page last night. “Not in order.”
In an interview earlier this week, Marlins head coach Darnell Moore stated that Mizzell likely “had an idea” of certain schools higher on the list than others, but no official cut-down had occurred. Now that the standout back has narrowed the field, the next step is to make visits. Coach Moore named a few possible destinations.
“He wants to try and get some places,” Moore said. “N.C. State, (Virginia) Tech, West Virginia… I know he has been to UVa several times, so I don’t know if he is going to go back there or not. These are the want-tos, but right now he hasn’t scheduled anything.”
Might a commitment come before the start of Bayside’s 2012 season?
“I don’t think he wants to wait,” Moore answered. “I think he wants to get it done [before next season starts].”
Mizzell’s stock has continued to rise throughout this offseason. He shined on the combine circuit, earning invites to the Rivals 5-Star Camp as well as Nike’s The Opening. Elusiveness and quickness are strengths — that’s how he earned the nickname of “Smoke” — but Mizzell’s completeness is what impresses the most according to Coach Moore.
