Thomas Dale (Chester, VA) athlete DJ Reid appears to be close to making his college choice.
“As far as DJ is concerned, I think he is putting schools in order,” Knights head coach Kevin Tucker said. “Virginia Tech and South Florida are tied at the top. UVa is close behind those two. Really, it’s going to come down to him getting to visit places this summer. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t have a decision at the end of June.”
The 6’0″, 190-pound junior plans to visit Blacksburg next week before going to South Florida and Virginia.
“He’s going to Virginia Tech on June 3rd for their one-day camp. He’s just going to visit. He may head up a day early,” Tucker said. “Then he’ll head to USF, and then to UVa too. Boston College and Temple, he’s still considering them and may visit, but I’m not sure.”
The three favorites, as well as Boston College and Temple, are the schools that have offered Reid, but schools such as Alabama, Florida, Miami and Oregon also stopped by Thomas Dale during the Evaluation Period to take a closer look. A good athlete with very good speed, Reid has potential at a variety of positions on the college level. Childhood favorite Virginia Tech sees him as a running back and kick returner at this point.
Virginia was the first to offer Reid, who landed an offer from Tech during its July camp last year. He won’t need to participate in next week’s June 3 camp.
“They just want him to get a good feel for the campus,” Tucker said. “The last time he was there it was strictly for a camp. They want him to see what life’s like there. They want him to see some academic buildings.”
Speaking of academics, Reid “should be fine” in terms of qualifying, Tucker said.
