LB Matt Rolin Eyeing Summer Decision
There is no question that the recruiting process can be a bit overwhelming at times, especially for those top recruits. Briar Woods (Ashburn, VA) junior linebacker Matt Rolin , who boasts over 20 major FBS scholarship offers, has experienced the craziness of today’s recruiting world during this Evaluation Period.
“I turned my cell phone off for a little bit. It was getting pretty crazy with coaches and reporters calling all the time,” he said.
The Evaluation Period has been an awakening of sorts for the 6’4″, 210-pound Rolin, who now plans on making his commitment much earlier than he initially anticipated.
“You know, I think I’m going to do it this summer,” Rolin said. “At the beginning I said I wanted to take all five official visits, but that could get a little hectic. I’ve been to a lot of schools already. I’ll be back at South Carolina next Thursday. I think I’ll just [commit] sometime this summer.”
Five schools top the standout linebacker’s list.
“I do have a top five of South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Florida and Georgia,” Rolin said.
Is this a final five or just a current top five?
“It’s probably a final list,” Rolin answered. “Really, it’s probably going to come down to South Carolina, Tech and Florida State.”
Within the past few weeks, Tech has gone from longshot to serious option in this race. While picking up his older brother, Scott, from Tech, Matt was able to tour the campus and spend time with head coach Frank Beamer and defensive line coach Charley Wiles. The experience went well and propelled the Hokies back into contention.
