Virginia Tech is used to being on the bubble in basketball. This year they are dealing with it in another sport: baseball. With six games remaining in ACC play, the Hokies are fighting for not only an ACC tournament berth, but a trip to the NCAA Tournament as well.
Eight teams are invited to the ACC Tournament in Greensboro. The top two teams in each division get an invite, and then the next four teams regardless of division. Right now, Virginia Tech is one of those eight teams. Here is a look at the ACC standings based on the ACC Tournament, with both divisions combined together.

The ACC is a very good baseball league, particularly this year, with 10 of their 12 teams ranked in the top 37 of the RPI. Five of the six Coastal Division teams are ranked in the top 30 of the RPI. The Hokies play in arguably the toughest baseball division in America. Pete Hughes has done a great job with the Tech program, considering the talent level when he took over and the competition he has faced year in and year out.
ACC teams have either three or six conference games remaining. The Hokies have six. I think we can look at the list above and agree that Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Maryland and Boston College will battle it out for the #7 and #8 seeds in the ACC Tournament. Let’s take a look at those five teams and see what they have remaining on their schedule.
