Next Year’s Lineup

First, let’s look at next year’s lineup now that we know Dorian Finney-Smith will be transferring.  This is just my projected starting lineup, at this point in time.  It could obviously change, and James Johnson certainly might disagree with me.

PG – Erick Green
SG – Robert Brown
SF – Jarell Eddie
PF – C.J. Barksdale
C – Cadarian Raines

Before we get to the bad news, let’s start with some good news.  I like that starting lineup.  We know Erick Green is one of the league’s top guards, and Cadarian Raines really started to play well towards the end of last season.  Jarell Eddie is a top-notch three-point shooter, and he’ll be sliding back down to his natural position of small forward.

Robert Brown certainly showed flashes last season, and should be ready to assume a starting role this year.  C.J. Barksdale has to improve his game, but I thought he played better than expected last year.  On the whole, I think that starting five can get things done.

Now, the bad news.  Depth is thin, and I mean really thin.  Point guard Marquis Rankin (So.), power forward Joey van Zegeren (r-Fr.) and combo forward Marshall Wood (Fr.) will be the only three players off the bench, at this point.  A fourth could be added, if power forward Montrezl Harrell (Fr.) decides to stick with the Hokies.  Cross your fingers.
