Anthony Barber is considered one of the top point guards in the class of 2013. Rivals.com rates him a 5-star prospect and the no. 13 junior in the nation. Scout.com ranks him as a 5-star and no. 21 in the country, while ESPN.com has him as a 4-star recruit and the no. 25 junior in the country. As you might expect, the 6’2″, 165-pound Hampton (VA) product is a highly recruited player.
“Virginia Tech, UVa, Alabama, U-Conn, Kansas, N.C. State, Florida State, and some others,” Barber answered when asked what offers he is considering.
Duke headlines the list of interested schools that have not yet offered, but Barber says the Blue Devils staff is “looking at me.”
If Barber has a leader, he didn’t reveal it this past Saturday. He said he did not have a dream school growing up, adding also that he doesn’t have a definitive timetable for when he would like to make a commitment.
“Early… waiting… just whenever is a good time for me to decide, I’ll decide,” Barber said.
He did, however, discuss some potential factors in his decision. Asked what he is looking for in the school he attends, he answered: “I gotta have a good relationship with the coach. When I come in, I want to work for what I want. I’m going to just come in, make sure I have a good relationship with the coach and my teammates, and do whatever I’ve got to do to get a championship.”
Asked if playing time would factor into his decision, he said: “I want playing time, but if it comes down to it I can’t do anything but work hard.”
Barber averaged 21.3 points per game this past season, when he led Hampton to a 27-5 overall record and a Group AAA state championship. He was named AAA Player of the Year for his efforts. This offseason, his concentration has been on shooting. He says...
