A reader emailed us and asked for a status update on the 2011 recruiting class. Many of those players are set to contribute this season, and if you missed what happened to Jerome Lewis and Chris Hall , we’ve got that information as well.

Tech signed 20 players in 2011. We’ll go through all 20 in alphabetical order.

Dewayne Alford , DE: Enrolled in January 2012.

Alford signed with Tech in February of 2011, but he grayshirted, which means he didn’t enroll until January of 2012. He’ll see his first action for the Hokies this spring. With Tech’s depth at defensive end, he’s considered a definite redshirt.

Boye Aromire , ROV/FS: Played special teams as a true freshman.

We aren’t quite sure where Aromire will play in the secondary this year. The true sophomore will line up at rover and free safety this spring, as Torrian Gray likes to work his defensive backs as left and right safeties, and left and right corners, during the spring. Aromire could have a chance to start this season.

Kevin Asante , WR: Redshirted.

Asante redshirted last season, and we haven’t heard anything about his development on the scout team. Even though Tech lost Danny Coale and Jarrett Boykin, they still return some good players at wide receiver. Asante is likely a year away from having a chance to see the field.

Michael Cole

Michael Cole , FS: Redshirted.

Right now, Cole is slated to play the free safety position. He redshirted a year ago, though he was physically ready to play. Cole will have a chance to compete for playing time this
