Wright Talks VT Commit, HS Career

From 2008-2010, Jerome Wright played running back for the Central Virginia Disciples, a football program featuring home-schooled athletes. After three years, though, he was ready for another level of competition. Playing for Highland Springs (VA) this season certainly served as the challenge Wright was seeking, and his performance throughout the year caught the attention of several colleges including Virginia Tech.

“I started playing for the Disciples my freshman year. Competition-wise, I felt like it wasn’t enough,” said Wright, a 6’1″, 225-pound prospect. “I felt I needed to prove myself first to be good enough to play on the next level.”

It wasn’t an easy transition on several fronts. But by the end of the Springers’ 7-3 campaign, Wright was viewed as one of the top players in the Capital District. He was a full-time starter at running back and a part-time player at linebacker, earning first-team all-Capital District honors for his play on offense.

“I had to get used to it, first of all to school because it’s totally different from what I was used to. Football-wise, it was a little easier because I just love playing the game and will do whatever it takes. I guess I totally got used to it all by mid-season,” Wright said.
