Non-conference strength of schedule is something that is talked about often
when discussing the Virginia Tech basketball team. It’s about more than strength
of schedule, though — it’s about top 50 non-conference wins. That’s the area
where the Hokies have been severely lacking in the Seth Greenberg era.

Using’s historical RPI rankings, Virginia Tech has played a
total of 17 top 50 non-conference opponents during Greenberg’s tenure. Many of
those have been in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, and others have come in neutral
site tournaments.
