Statesville’s Star Juniors Attended VT/UNC Game

Statesville (N.C.) juniors Carlis Parker and Tristan Mumford were in Blacksburg last Thursday for Virginia Tech’s win over ACC rival North Carolina. The two gridiron standouts attended camp at Tech this past summer, and it appears they enjoyed the return trip.

“He had a really good time,” Statesville head coach Randall Gusler said of Parker, a 6’4″, 185-pound quarterback prospect. “He really enjoyed it. It was a cold game, but it was really nice and he liked the atmosphere. One thing that impressed him too was when he was down on the sideline. Him and Tristan both got to go out and speak with Coach Beamer. A bunch of recruits were there, but only a couple got to walk out and see Coach Beamer.”

Mumford, a 6’1″, 225-pound athlete prospect, “likes Virginia Tech. He is very impressed with everything they’ve done,” Gusler said. “He was impressed with everything he saw.”

Neither player is close to making a college commitment, though both have seen most of the schools in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. There is no clear favorite for either player, Gusler says.
