VT Extends Another 2012 Offer

Virginia Tech has extended a scholarship offer to Highland Springs (VA) running back/linebacker Jerome Wright, who is truly a sleeper in the 2012 class. The 6’2″, 220-pound Wright, home-schooled from third grade through 11th, worked his way to become a major part of head coach Loren Johnson’s squad. And now he has an offer to show for his efforts.

“He has a gray-shirt offer from Virginia Tech,” Johnson said. “He’s just waiting to take the official visit, so his mother can see everything. They’ve been to UVa for an unofficial visit. Now, he’s waiting to take an official or unofficial to Virginia Tech.”

UVa has shown interest but has not offered. Virginia Tech is the first and only offer for Wright, a player with potential on both sides of the ball. He primarily played running back for the Springers, but he did see action at linebacker on occasion. One of those occasions came in the regular season finale, where Wright returned an interception 35 yards for a score in a 12-7 win over playoff-bound Varina. He added an 11-yard touchdown run to win the game.
