Diary: Baron Set To Return

The bad news was Brentwood Academy (Nashville, TN) losing to Ensworth last week, and thus losing its division lead. The good news is that, no matter what happens tonight, the Eagles can look forward to postseason play. The better news? Star senior defensive end/offensive guard Woody Baron returns to action tonight after missing several games due to injury.

“I had an MCL strain,” Baron said. “As the weeks went on, the training staff told me to take it slow and let it heal. The training staff we have at our school is incredible. I gave it a rest, but this week they told me I could go out and play. It felt wonderful. I’ve been practicing all week.”

Primary recruiter Charley Wiles, who Baron spoke with Thursday evening, can sympathize with injuries. Virginia Tech’s defense has been ravaged by injuries this season, with starting linebacker Bruce Taylor the latest casualty. The 6’1″, 250-pound Baron is thankful his injury wasn’t worse, and he’s looking forward to being able to help his team once again.

“Yeah man. I’m just happy to be out there and so blessed,” Baron replied when asked how excited he was to take the field tonight. “I’m happy it wasn’t as serious as it could’ve been. I’m going to go out there and try my best. This is our last regular season game, so hopefully we can get some momentum for the playoffs.”
