Sitting in between his mother and father, Dan River (Ringgold, VA) linebacker/running back prospect Trey Edmunds revealed to friends, family, Dan River faculty and media last Friday that he would attend Virginia Tech. Certainly, the Hokies are getting a talented football prospect that also had offers from Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas Tech and Virginia. It’s also getting a high-character individual and a good student (3.6 GPA) respected by those in the Dan River High School community.

Several members of Dan River High School’s administration, including Principal Elizabeth Craig, attended the press conference and congratulates Trey on his decision. The humble athlete thanked them and more before announcing for Tech.

“I would like to thank my parents, my brothers, my family members, my church family, my pastor. I would like to thank the close friends of my family. I would like to thank everyone who came out today to support me. I would like to thank my coaches, from little league all the way up to varsity. I would like to thank the Dan River faculty. I would like to thank James McDaniels for allowing all this to happen. I would like to thank all the reporters, all the recruiters, all the coaches who took time out of their busy schedules. I would just like to thank all of them for showing heavy interest in me. It is indeed a great honor,” said a humble Edmunds, who, after the initial press conference in Dan River’s library, went to the school auditorium to announce the choice to his teammates.

Following the announcements, Trey’s father, Ferrell, spoke about his son and the way he handled the recruiting process.
