There are three big topics for today’s Friday Q&A: the in-state
recruiting battle between Virginia Tech and UVA, offensive line recruiting, and
Tech’s linebacker depth chart.
1) Last year, it seemed like UVA had better recruiting in the 757 than VT did. Do you see any change in that for this current year?
Chris Coleman: Virginia certainly had a better year than the Hokies
in the 757 last season. At the last minute, quarterback commitment Lafonte
Thourogood signed with Vanderbilt instead of Virginia Tech, and the only 757
kid to ink with the Hokies was defensive end Dewayne Alford. Who did the Hokies
beat for Alford? James Madison and Old Dominion.
The Hoos are loading up in the 757 again this year.

Mike London’s strategy makes sense. He’s trying to establish an identity, and
with the 757 very close to Charlottesville, it makes sense to try and start a
pipeline in that area. I think a couple of those guys are major reaches, such as
Mason Thomas and Will Wahee, but in the end London can point to a sheet of paper
and tell future recruits “Look, we are really locking down the 757. We
