Virginia Tech has already assembled a very strong defensive class. From now
until February, the coaching staff will focus on keeping the current class
together, and adding a few more highly-recruited players to make things
Tech already has 14 commitments from players we project to play defense in
college, and they are waiting on the decisions of several others.
The Hokies are most likely done in the defensively secondary, but they would
like to add a few more players to the front seven.
Jarontay Jones is Virginia Tech’s only definite commitment at defensive end
so far. I believe he projects as a short side defensive end at the college
level, which is called the "end" in Bud Foster’s scheme. It’s possible
that a guy like Nigel Williams could turn into a defensive end, though it’s
Seth Dooley is listed as a jumbo athlete, and he could play tight end.
However, his likely destination is defensive end, so that’s where we’ll list him
in this article.
Ideally, the Hokies will sign one more defensive end in this class. I don’t
think Tech has much of a shot with Darius Hamilton now. If Hamilton isn’t
