One of Virginia Tech’s goals on Saturday was to find a few offensive linemen worth of a scholarship offer. There were some quality linemen at the camp, and on Tuesday the coaching staff extending a scholarship offer to rising senior offensive tackle Augie Conte.
“I was pretty excited, I was pretty speechless,” the 6-6, 270-lbs Conte said. “Virginia Tech right now is definitely by number one choice.”
Conte starts at offensive tackle for Blessed Sacrament Hugenot in Powhatan, VA, and he already holds an offer from Old Dominion. He plans to camp at Richmond later this summer, but admits that the Tech camp experience will be difficult to beat.
“I really liked Virginia Tech. I really liked the coaches. They really took the time to remember your name. It wasn’t just like they were trying to get people through the drill, they actually took time to coach you and really pay attention to who you were and what your skill level was.”
Conte is planning on visiting James Madison this week as well.
“I was going to wait a few days and see if any other schools came through. I was going to go visit JMU sometime this week, but I was thinking about committing sometime later this summer or the beginning of the fall.”
