Kings Fork High School (Suffolk, VA) athlete Charles Clark camped at Virginia Tech last summer before his sophomore season, and he caught the eye of the coaching staff. He camped in Blacksburg again this summer, and left with a scholarship offer.
The 2013 prospect plays both ways for Kings Fork, and he also returns kicks. His position in college has not been set.
“The way Coach Beamer talked, they are recruiting him right now as an athlete,” Kings Fork coach Joe Jones said.
Jones went further in depth about what makes Clark an outstanding prospect.
“He had an excellent sophomore year. He’s really developed as a player and a leader on both sides of the ball. He starts full time for us on defense, and we give him a little bit of a break on offense to try and keep him rested. He’s gotten bigger, faster and stronger. He’s got a great work ethic. He’s a guy to be reckoned with this year in our district on both sides of the ball, and as a returner.”
Charles is the leader of a defense that should benefit from many of its players seeing varsity time at a very early age.
“I’m very optimistic,” Jones said. “We played a lot of sophomores last year. He’s in a good class of rising juniors. We’ve got about 10 rising juniors who got a lot of varsity experience last year, mostly on the defensive side of the ball. I think we’ll have quality depth. We have to replace most of our offensive line, but we’ve got some sophomores and juniors who played well together on JV last year, so I’m very optimistic.”
Virginia Tech is the second offer for Clark, who has been offered by UVA as well.
