Virginia Tech’s linebackers were very young in 2010, and several of them
showed a lot of promise, particularly towards the end of the season. This is a
group that has a chance to improve a lot, simply because there will be so much
competition for playing time.
Bruce Taylor is back, as is Barquell Rivers, who was out for the 2010 season.
Lyndell Gibson had shoulder surgery and will miss spring practice, but that will
open the door for some of Tech’s younger, more talented linebackers to make a
move up the depth chart.
Jeron Gouveia-Winslow returns as the starter at whip, and though he was much
improved down the stretch last year, Bud Foster will still be looking at other
players to provide competition at that position.
Virginia Tech has not announced any official position changes at linebacker
as of yet, so the following depth chart is pure guesswork.
