4-star junior Montrezl Harrell was certainly impressed with Virginia Tech’s big win over the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday night, but the 6-7, 230-pound forward enjoyed more than just the victory on the weekend visit. In fact, Tech has made a strong move for the talented prospect.
“It was great,” Harrell said of the unofficial visit. Accompanied by his mother, he spoke with players and coaches and toured the campus in addition to taking in Saturday night’s game. They arrived Saturday and returned home on Sunday. “It was a great experience to be up there.”
Asked how he felt about the role (one similar to Jeff Allen’s) he is being recruited to play at Virginia Tech, Harrell said, “I see it as a perfect fit. And the atmosphere was a great atmosphere.”
Asked for his thoughts on the school, Harrell said, “The academics are great. It seemed like a great place to be. Everything we were shown was great. My connection with the coaches got better.”
Indeed, the visit went very well for both parties. Prior to the visit, Harrell listed Clemson, Miami, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest as schools that have caught his attention. He returned home naming a favorite.
“Virginia Tech is number one,” Harrell said.
Tech head coach Seth Greenberg had a message for the talented junior.
“I had the chance to meet with him [Saturday] and [on Sunday morning],” Harrell said. “He was excited that I had come down and watched the game. He said he wants me there and he said if I come it’ll be just like I was at home. He thinks they have a perfect style of play for me.”
North Edgecombe’s season is over, so up next for Harrell is the AAU circuit. Currently, he has no other college visits planned. He had originally planned to commit at the end of AAU season, but perhaps something could come sooner rather than later.
“I was supposed to commit at the end of AAU season, but I don’t know,” Harrell said.
