The stellar high school football career of Anson (Wadesboro, N.C.) 5-star linebacker Stephone Anthony is over (except for the Under Armour AA Game), but while the 6-3, 220-pound senior is disappointed that his team isn’t playing in the postseason, he is anxious to figure out where he wants to continue his football career.
“The latest with recruiting is that I think I’ll buckle down and get serious with it,” Anthony said. “During the season, I tried not to think about it too much. I went to the LSU at Florida game. I have plans to go to the UNC/Virginia Tech game on Saturday (for an unofficial visit).”
Though he may take a few more unofficials — he mentioned Florida, Clemson and Georgia as possibilities after this weekend — Anthony’s primary order of business is to schedule official visits. Right now, he knows of three of the five schools he wants to officially visit.
“I know Florida, Clemson, and Virginia Tech,” Anthony said. “I have to sort out the last two.”
The Tar Heel State star is eyeing an announcement at the Under Armour All-American Bowl, which is set for Wednesday, January 5. He won’t commit, however, unless he is certain.
“I do want to commit at Under Armour, but if it falls later it falls later,” Anthony said.
The University of Florida has led in this race for quite some time, but in recent weeks the Gators don’t seem to be as strong a favorite.
“As it boils down, teams are getting closer and closer,” Anthony said. “Honestly, it’s kind of evening out.”
He reflected on the unofficial he made for the LSU game.
“I got around the coaches more, talked to them more,” said Anthony, recalling last month’s visit to Gainesville. “It was good. The atmosphere was great. It was a nice game. The fans were into it. They were loud. It seems like it would be a good place to play.”
