Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) quarterback Lafonte Thorougood has taken unofficial visits to Notre Dame and Virginia Tech this fall. A North Carolina coach stopped by to watch a game and West Virginia was represented at school. Recruiting continues to be busy for the 6-2, 215-pound senior, who is now in the process of scheduling official visits.

“The certainties [for official visits] are Arkansas, West Virginia, and Virginia Tech,” Dolphins head coach Chris Scott said. “There are other places he’d probably like to see, but he is seeing how everything develops on each school’s side as well as his side. Those three we have concrete.”

Thourogood has not scheduled specific dates, though the trip to Arkansas is likely to come in December and the official to Tech may well come before the end of the football season. Prior to these visits, is Virginia Tech the school to beat?

“He is most familiar with Virginia Tech because they have people from the area and the coaches are around here more often,” Scott said. “With West Virginia, the conversations he has had with Coach [Chris] Beatty and the phone calls have gone well. I don’t know if there is a favorite, but he is most familiar with the Tech staff and the campus because of how many times he has been there.”

Thourogood’s last trip to Tech came in September, when he attended the East Carolina game. That day, the Tech coaches reiterated their significant interest in the Dolphins star.

“They said that he’s their number one priority,” Scott said. “They want him to come back up there when it’s convenient for him and his family. They want him to win a state championship with us and then win a national championship with them. They said they’d love for him to be a Hokie.”

One of the top senior signal caller’s in the state, Thourogood missed two weeks this season due to a shoulder injury. He returned for Ocean Lakes’ fifth regular season game – a win over First Colonial – and was rolling last week, when the Dolphins (6-0) defeated Kellam 41-20. In the win, Thourogood completed 13-22 passes for 135 yards and rushed six times for 58 yards and three touchdowns.

“We’re getting back into a rhythm with him out there. We need him healthy and ready to go,” said Scott,
