Ardrey Kell (Charlotte, N.C.) tight end Drew Owens reportedly scheduled an official visit to Virginia Tech for the weekend of October 16. TechSideline.com caught up with the 6-5, 225-pound senior, who addressed his future visit plans and more in this latest update.

“I am set to take a visit to Virginia Tech on the 16,” Owens said. “I’m not sure if it will be an official visit or an unofficial visit yet.”

Owens has yet to speak with the Tech coaches over the phone this month, but he did say he continues to receive handwritten letters from primary recruiter Kevin Sherman. Tech currently sits on the outside of the standout senior’s top four, which includes Clemson, North Carolina, N.C. State and South Carolina.

“Virginia Tech is a close fifth or sixth,” Owens said. “I just want to see them use the tight end more. I watched the game against Boise State and Andre Smith didn’t get any throws. I want to see if they start to use the tight end more or what their plans are for the future.”
