FB Recruiting Notes: Hughes Sets Officials

In this edition of “Notes,” read the latest on Kempsville (Virginia Beach, VA) senior linebacker Travis Hughes , who has scheduled all five official visits and answers whether or not depth chart is a key factor in his decision. Also read up on the talent at Hermitage High School in Richmond, Virginia.

LB Hughes Sets Official Visits

Kempsville (Virginia Beach, VA) linebacker Travis Hughes has not eliminated any schools, but he does have a solid top five and has scheduled official visits to those five programs. The 6-1, 215-pound senior will visit Maryland the weekend of September 11, Virginia Tech the weekend of September 18, LSU on the weekend of October 2, UNC the weekend of October 9 and Clemson the weekend of October 23.

UNC has been Hughes’ favorite for the past few months. Another ACC program has made a move in recent weeks and currently holds the second spot.

“UNC is still at the top,” Hughes said. “Clemson is definitely number two. My visit there was exceptional. There are a lot of positive things about Clemson. Maryland is third. I’m so close with the coaches. I know the staff so well, but I have to see how they do this season.”

Virginia Tech currently sits fourth on Hughes’ list with LSU rounding out the top five. Hughes discussed what he is looking to see when he visits Blacksburg next month.

“When I get to Tech, I want to see the lifestyle and how the players migrate together,” said Hughes, who last visited Tech for the July 10 camp. “I want to see how the players are and how they correlate together. I want to get a feel for the life of a Virginia Tech player. I know a considerable amount already. I know Virginia Tech knocks ’em out on the field. Coach Beamer does an awesome job. I want to see what goes on outside of football.”

Hughes didn’t get into specifics with respect to each school, but he did acknowledge that depth
