Virginia Tech has a reputation for putting outstanding defensive backs on the
field every year. They have another talented group in 2010, particularly at the
cornerback position. If the safeties play well, and the unit as a whole stays
healthy, then opposing teams aren’t going to have much success through the air
this year.
Penn State is “Linebacker U” and Miami is “Running Back
U”. I’d like to formally nominate Virginia Tech for “Defensive Back
U”, as I do every year about this time. The Hokies are constantly near the
top of the NCAA standings in pass defense and pass efficiency defense, and they
put a ton of cornerbacks and safeties in the NFL.

Tech will be breaking in three news starters, but they’ll also have a couple of
experienced seniors to fall back on.
