The second summer session has begun at Virginia Tech. As usual, the majority
of the freshmen have now enrolled in their first college classes and they’ll
spend the next month in Mike Gentry’s strength and conditioning program. Several
will be looking to earn playing time in their first season.

The Virginia Tech coaching staff is conservative when it comes to redshirting.
A true freshman will always redshirt, unless he’s needed to fill out the
two-deep, or he can significantly contribute on special teams.
