While Virginia Tech’s in-state recruiting has remained virtually unchanged
since ACC expansion, their out-of-state recruiting has changed dramatically. The
recruiting landscape has shifted quite a bit, and the southeast is now Virginia
Tech’s primary focus.

The Hokies always try to get the majority of their recruits from the state of
Virginia, but that doesn’t always work out. Tech has to stay strong in the
neighboring states as well, in case 2006 happens all over again. In 2006, only
five in-state players signed with the Hokies, which forced them to focus on
out-of-state prospects.

A Narrowed Focus

Some believe that Virginia Tech should recruit more on a national scale in an
effort to get to “the next level”. Instead, since joining the ACC, the
Hokies have narrowed their focus to a select group of states.
